Hi again!
I just wanted to send another quick update letting everyone know that Mom had her fine needle biopsy this morning and it went well. The procedure lasted about an hour and we were home safely in Baton Rouge by 5pm. Again, we won't have the results until late next week at the earliest, and I will be sure to send out an email update as soon as we speak to the doctors.
In the mean time, I have had several requests for a mailing address where cards could be sent. The best place to send anything would be to Mom's home address as our trips to Houston are infrequent and brief. Her address is at the end of this email.
Thank you again for all your love and support! Have a happy new year and we hope to ring in the new year with some good news!!!
Best,
Meghan

Hello all,
Mom and I are back in Houston for her fine needle biopsy. Today she had a consultation to go over the procedure. The actual biopsy will take place tomorrow morning at 8am and we will be driving home to Baton Rouge when it is finished. Due to the New Year's holiday we won't have any results until the end of next week and we won't know any more until then.
As always, your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes are very much needed and appreciated. I will be sure to send out another email and website update as soon as we know the biopsy results.
Happy New Year!
Meghan

Hi again!
We have finished our rather long day at MD Anderson in Houston and there isn't much new news to report. After meeting with the doctors Mom was sent for blood work and some extra chest X-rays (to further definitively rule out tumors in the chest and lungs) and some X-rays of her hip so they could have a better picture of her tumor.
We will be leaving Houston tomorrow morning and be in Baton Rouge for Christmas (Yay!!). On December 26 we will return to Houston so that Mom can have a consultation on the 27th and a fine needle biopsy on the 28th. The fine needle biopsy will allow the doctors to determine if her tumor is benign or malignant and what type of cancer it is. The doctors feel that the biopsy is necessary to determine the course of future treatment. Results from the biopsy will take several days, and until we get those we won't know exactly what the future will hold in terms of treatment.
In the mean time we are looking forward to spending Christmas with family and friends at home in Baton Rouge and are still hoping and praying for good news after the biopsy and the tests today. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!

Hello all,
Many of you may not know me, but I am Meghan Blackledge, Georgia Scobee's daughter. For those of you who are getting this news for the first time via email, I apologize for the electronic notification, but I hope you will understand and not hold it against me.
On Monday, December 11, Georgia went to her orthopedist for a routine MRI to discover the source of leg pain that had been bothering her for several weeks. The MRI revealed a large mass at the top of her right femur (thigh bone) inside her hip joint. The orthopedist immediately referred her to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and arranged for her to meet with a local oncologist the next day.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Georgia underwent a bone scan and a PET/CT scan to look for signs of metastasis (signs of other tumors elsewhere in the body) to indicate if the tumor had spread or if the tumor was the result of some other mass in the body. On Friday, December 15 we received the wonderful news that there were no signs of any other tumors in her body! (The thoughts and prayers are working - please keep it up!) We are still unsure if the tumor in her hip is benign or malignant and we will not know for certain until a biopsy is performed, which will be done at M.D. Anderson at some point.
We have an appointment with an orthopedic oncologist at M.D. Anderson early on Tuesday, December 19. We will be traveling to Houston tomorrow (Monday, December 18). At this point we are unsure how long we will be staying in Houston and what the treatment protocol will be, but we hope to have more information about both of those things after we meet with the doctor at M.D. Anderson.
I will be sending out email updates whenever we get new information to keep everyone up to date on Georgia's progress. As the news travels, please feel free to forward these emails to anyone you think would be interested, or have them email me at meghan.scobee@gmail.com to be added to the group. I have also set up a website, http://sweetgeorgiabrown1.blogspot.com , which will have copies of every email update that I send out.
As always, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this time. It means so much to us to know that we are surrounded by so many wonderful people who care! Thank you for everything you have already done and all that you continue to do.
Best,
Meghan
